JUNIOR PEARLS OF BECKSTRAND LAUNCH “LETTERS OF LOVE” PROGRAM FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER PATIENTS AT MILLER CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Innovative Mailbox Program Motivates Kids to Fight Cancer with Hope and Dignity

NEWPORT BEACH, California (July 27, 2009) – Junior Pearls, a high school auxiliary of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation dedicated to improving and enhancing quality of life for kids and teens with cancer, today announced the launch of its “Letters of Love” mailbox program at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach. Donated by Ravi S. Kanwal of the Packaging Store in Irvine, dozens of standard-sized mailboxes were delivered by Junior Pearls in a visit to the hospital’s Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center.

“The Junior Pearls set out to do something special for our patients, and we are thrilled to report that the Letters of Love program has been just as rewarding and eye-opening as our other hospital visits, but with a creative twist,” explained Alexandra Spitzer, Founder and Chair of Junior Pearls. “Together, Junior Pearls members and the kids had an opportunity to interact and create their own unique mailboxes with paints, glitter and stickers – and soon they will be filled with uplifting Letters of Love from their friends and family.”

During the auxiliary’s most recent visit, Junior Pearls School Ambassadors were on hand to deliver letters and special items to the mailboxes. Kids also keep personal belongings inside their mailboxes, and exchange letters with each other. On the back of each mailbox is a message that reads, “This box has a magic that can set you free, something that is not in a prescription or in an IV. It holds words of hope and words of dreams, with laughter and new friendships thrown in between. So whenever you are frustrated or upset, rise above – Take a deep breath and open a Letter of Love.”
