TEAM BECKSTRAND RAISES $10,000 FOR CANCER PATIENTS AT OC MARATHON
Seven to 47-year-olds Raced to Raise Awareness, Funds on Behalf of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation
NEWPORT BEACH, California (May 6, 2009) – Team Beckstrand, a 19-member running team assembled to raise awareness and funds on behalf of Newport Beach nonprofit Beckstrand Cancer Foundation, participated in its first-ever OC Marathon races on May 2-3. The team attracted runners from age seven to 47, and successfully raised $10,000 in support of local cancer patients and their families.
“The team trained for months to participate in the kids run, 5K and half-marathon and they were very excited to work together in support of the cancer community at such a fun athletic event,” said Lil Spitzer, Executive Director of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. “We’re proud to have taken part in the OC Marathon, a race that focuses on perseverance, health, wellness and quality of life – all of which echo the mission of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation.”
Runners sported t-shirts and hats emblazoned with a custom Team Beckstrand logo. A variation of the trademark Beckstrand butterfly logo inspired runners to remember the concept of the “butterfly effect,” and how even small changes can make a big difference. The collective “small changes” brought about by running and fundraising will allow the Foundation to make a significant and positive difference in the lives of many cancer patients, providing them with patient advocacy and assistance for day-to-day needs such as food, shelter and access to medical treatment.
The top five fundraisers for the team were: Jenny Livits (team captain), Alexandra Spitzer, Trent Anderson, Tara Shapiro and Patricia Ramirez. Other team members included: Natalie Braverman, Scott Perkins, Kristen Nahin, Seerat Saini, Lauren Palley, Jazmin Gardner, Jillian Ray, Abigail McBean, Sashé Graff, Bryan Land, CJ Stos, Cheryl Melendres, Maya Vega and Nikki Magliarditi.
