Local Team to Ride in Support of Four Pearls of Beckstrand and John A. Pilafidis Memorial Fund

NEWPORT BEACH/LAGUNA HILLS, California (Feb. 25, 2009)Race Across America, a 3,000-mile cycling race known as one the longest running annual endurance event in the world, will be the stage for Team OC Quattro’s campaign to raise awareness for the needs of patients suffering from cancer and bipolar disorder. As motivation to complete the grueling event, the team has elected to ride on behalf of two charities: Four Pearls of Beckstrand and the John A. Pilafidis Memorial Fund.

Competing in the four-person men’s division, Team OC Quattro’s members include Matthew Vujovich, 34, Vice President of Snyder-Langston, a commercial general contractor in Irvine; Evan Slavik, 27, Senior Project Engineer at Snyder-Langston; Chris Marsh, 41, a Senior Vice President of the Irvine Company; and Max Del Real, 32, a Regional Coordinator for Project Pipeline in Sacramento. Together they hope to complete the race in seven days, riding one at a time in “tag team” style from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland

“The Race Across America represents an enormous physical and mental challenge, but the finish will be triumphant and a fitting tribute to John Pilafidis and Andi Collins, whose memories have inspired two charities and continues to inspire us daily,” shared Vujovich, who started the John A. Pilafidis Memorial Fund along with his wife in memory of his brother-in-law.

The John A. Pilafidis Memorial Fund was established to provide financial resources that support the research of Bipolar Disorder along with charitable, educational and scientific entities that focus on mental health research and awareness. The organization’s goal is to support programs that help identify, delay or prevent the onset of Bipolar Disorder.

Four Pearls of Beckstrand is an auxiliary of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation dedicated to improving and enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. The organization works to raise awareness and funds that support the Foundation’s Pediatric Oncology Program, which provides a unique combination of financial assistance and patient advocacy to victims of cancer who are in the midst of treatment and struggling to cope with critical day-to-day basic needs. Its goal is to ensure patients can focus on treatment and recovery.

The Race Across America begins June 20, 2009. For more information about Team OC Quattro or to lend support to the team’s two charitable causes, please visit www.TeamOCQuattro.com.
